On January 29, 2025, the new terminal of the Jorge Chavez International Airport. According to Lima Airport Partners (LAP), the airport’s concessionaire, the new infrastructure is 98% complete, which represents good news both for the employment that its construction has generated and for which its operation will generate, as well as improving connectivity and user experience.
Rocío Espinoza, LAP Communications Manager, stated that the investment in the construction of the new terminal is completely private and has demanded a disbursement of US$2,000 million from LAP. In addition, the work has allowed private third parties to invest an additional US$400 million, providing the airport with two hotels, a logistics park, a fuel plant, a loading area and parking lots. There will also be the presence of the best of Peruvian gastronomy, with the arrival of renowned restaurants.
Even, according to Espinoza, of every sol generated by the airport, around 50% is allocated to the State in a trust, which will help regional airports so they can carry out works.
“The Jorge Chávez airport becomes an engine and driver of the tourism and connectivity sector for Peru,” said Espinoza.
Amenities
The new infrastructure is made up of five levels, which due to their breadth, innovation and technology will provide a good experience to the passenger.
On level zero, located in the basement, the LAP administration will operate. On level one, located on the first floor, will be the area for national and international arrivals. That is, every passenger who arrives in Lima will go through level one to collect their suitcase and continue to their destination.
The second floor area, level two, allows connecting arrivals and departures. Meanwhile, the third floor area has been designated for the check-in (registration) of passengers. This area is larger than the current terminal, which will help reduce queues. Finally, the fourth floor area is for the VIP lounges and protocol rooms.
To reduce time, in the control area there will be 27 inspection lines with 27 state-of-the-art tomographs that will allow 300 carry-on bags to be inspected per hour. The new airport will have something to talk about.
