In the early hours of this Monday the doctor died in Bogotá Remberto Burgos de la Espriellaone of the most recognized neurosurgeons in Colombia and a prominent figure in the country’s scientific and academic field. His departure has generated multiple expressions of regret in different sectors of medicine, politics and civil society.
Dr. Burgos de la Espriella was member of the National Academy of Medicine, honorary member of the Academy of Cartagena and honorary president of the Latin American Federation of Neurosurgery. Additionally, he served as former president of the Colombian Association of Neurosurgery and it was Government and Public Affairs specialistwhich allowed him to have a comprehensive look at health and public policies.
Born in the department of Córdoba, Burgos dedicated his life to the service of medicine and the strengthening of scientific knowledge. He was a professional widely consulted by the national media, especially for his ability to explain complex topics with clarity and rigor. In his career, he also stood out as columnist for the newspaper El Meridiano de Córdobawhere for years he wrote about health topics, neuroscience, and reflections on everyday life.
From Córdoba, different voices mourned his death.
