The Navy confirms a spill of 1.18 barrels of oil in the Talara Sea in the last 24 hours

The Directorate of Captaincies and Coast Guards of Peru (Dicapi), an entity of the Navy, reported that in the last 24 hours a new oil spill was reported, this time in the PN-14 Platform of the Savia company, located in Cabo White, province of Talara (Piura). The company involved spoke out and reported on the containment actions carried out.

According to local information, the oil spill – equivalent to 1.18 barrels – occurred yesterday, January 26, at 7 in the morning. in the area of ​​Peña Negra (Talara). “We became aware of the existence of a hydrocarbon stain and proceeded to activate the contingency plan.”, confirmed the Savia company.

“Regarding the cause of the leak, it occurred on platform PN14 due to a failure in the valve of well PN14-3, proceeding with the immediate closure of the well. Well PN14-3 produces 6 BOPD (Barrels per day)”, he explained Sap.

Subsequently, the company moved special boats to the area and deployed absorbent barriers in the affected perimeter, managing to control the spill and proceeding to clean the impacted area.

contingency actions

For its part, the Peruvian Navy, through the Port Authority of Talara, became aware of the incident and arrived at the scene together with the Petroperú company and vessels in the area, in order to join the activation of the local contingency plan of the aforementioned company.

“This mitigation work was carried out in the presence of representatives of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office (FEMA), the National Water Association (ANA), the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) and the Investment Supervisory Agency. in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), who confirmed the work carried out“, It indicated.

After the cleaning work carried out, it was known that the corresponding minutes were drawn up and it was certified that the area was free of hydrocarbons and other substances harmful to the sea.

The Port Authority of Talara will continue to be vigilant, while the company Savia announced that it will maintain a team of divers and a fence of oleophilic barriers in the area of ​​the PN14 platform.
