The National Party Board of Directors resolved on Monday, by unanimous decision, that Valentina Dos Santos cannot be presented as a candidate for the Intendance of Artigas under the motto of the party. The determination was taken after a meeting in which the political future of the former director of the Intendance of Artigas was discussed.
The decision comes after Dos Santos was sentenced in July six months of freedom to proof for crimes related to the case of overtime in the Intendance of Artigas, in addition to having been judicially disabled by usurpation of functions. Despite having fulfilled his conviction, within his political sector, fresh air, requests arose to return to the National Party and enable his candidacy, which was finally rejected by the board.
The proposal did not have unanimous support within fresh air and generated divisions in other sectors of the National Party, such as Herrerismo and Alianza País. In parallel, artigas militants in favor of the candidacy of Dos Santos presented signatures to the Board of Directors requesting their authorization, but this initiative was also dismissed.
On the other hand, the Board also defined that the election for the renewal of the President of the National Party will be held after the May departmental elections.
