With the intention of facing the different risks due to the water crisis In some areas of the country, the national government, through the Commission for the Regulation of Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation, presented a resolution with which The aim is to reduce excessive water consumption. What is this proposal about?
Through a newsletter published on the official website of the presidency, it was indicated that Nelly Mogollón, executive director of the Commission, explained that one of the main objectives is to guarantee that there is enough water for the reservoirs that have been affected.
It should be added that this will be a joint work with Susana Muhammad, Minister of the Environment, and also Ghisliane Echeverry, director of the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Ideam). From this perspective, the presidency announced that the aqueduct service providers already have the instrument for moderate and, above all, rational consumption.

On the other hand, Mogollón also pointed out that this resolution has a mechanism that provides consistent consumption taking into account the thermal floors that also allow the reduction with the idea of the use that citizens and some companies can currently give it.
Additionally, another objective will be to have water availability through new limits depending on the thermal floor in which it is located: “For residential subscribers located in a cold climate, the basic monthly consumption remains at 13 cubic meters; 14 cubic meters for a temperate climate and 16 cubic meters in a warm climate,” they point out.
Where this measure that regulates water in Colombia is not applied
“In the case of non-residential users, such as commerce, industry and for common areas of horizontal property, A decrease in consumption of 10% is established in relation to the average consumption of the last 12 months,” they noted.

It is clarified that this measure will not be applied in prisons, universities, schools and hospitals. Therefore, the respective surcharge will be charged based on the additional cubic meter than that indicated by this resolution.
