The national census begins and Abinader is the first registered

President Louis Abinader was registered at his home in the La Julia sector at nine in the morning this Thursday, becoming the first Dominican registered and thus giving a boost to the process.

The president called on the population to support the Tenth Census of Population and Housing and asked the opposition not to play politics with this issue.

“For these 14 days, as far as the CensusLet’s forget politics and focus on vision. There are many ways to criticize and that is always good, and even make any suggestion,” said the head of state.

He assured that many of those who have criticized “are doing it for political reasons and I tell them not to take the Census to criticize political parties”.

He advised the opposition that there are many issues that they can deal with, and that this is normal because that is democracy, but he warned them that the Census It is a national issue. Abinader understands “that they are wrong and as the days go by they will realize that.”

He pointed out that now it is important to focus on knowing how many we are and what we need so that this and the next governments can make public policies.

Abinader highlighted that with the results of the Census the Government will be able to know what is needed in each locality and thus prioritize State investments.

The president’s enumerator was the director of the National Statistics Office (ONE), Myosotis Rivas. With it, the work of nearly 35,000 people who are in charge of registering the entire population living in Dominican territory begins throughout the country.

This process ends on November 23.

Security

Regarding the fear for the security that many people could have, the president said that the provisions have been taken and that “there is a whole system with the National Police and the other State institutions for protection.”

He recalled that “when the census in 2010 crime levels were double what we have today”.

Organization

The first days will be for adjustments, so Miosotis Rivas explained that his projection is that by Saturday 100% of all the tablets will be working.

He stressed that in many restricted access areas people are organizing and some condominiums have decided to set up a table to seat the enumerators and for people to go down to take a census.

In that sense, he called on the neighborhood associations and those in charge of condominiums to coordinate with those in charge of the polygon of the Census the way in which they are going to receive the registered citizens.

“We are not necessarily talking about opening the door, but about receiving,” Rivas said.

Journalist and writer graduated from the UASD with a career in television press and various print media.
