The mayor of Maipú, Tomás Vodanovic, reported that the municipality he heads managed to reduce the deficit by 15,628 million pesos in his first six months in office, after he denounced inheriting a “broken municipality” by the previous administration. “These have been difficult months, but we look forward to the future with hope,” said Mayor Vodanovic.
“I want to thank the citizens for their understanding of this complex exercise. Today, through these numbers, we see that we have come a long way. To the extent that we repair our municipality, we will be able to see a direct impact on the quality of life in our community. ”, added the mayor.
The reduced amount is the consequence of a set of efforts made by the mayor’s management to reduce a deficit that the municipal teams estimated at $34 billion last July. One of them is the saving of municipal resources that reaches $3,900 million, which was achieved with measures such as the elimination of massive events, the cutback of costly programs and the decrease in spending on remuneration as a result of the reduction in overtime pay. and downsizing.
Another management was the reduction of deficit through the renegotiation of debts of the municipality with different external suppliers. In this area, a reduction of $6,728 million was achieved. All these agreements will be settled in less than three years, before the end of the period of the mayor Tomás Vodanovic. Finally, there is the payment of nearly $5,000 million of debts to suppliers charged to the 2022 budget, which will be paid to the different companies before the end of March.
“It is not fair that the costs of this situation are being paid by the neighbors, but it is a reality that we must take charge of and resolve. Today there is the peace of mind that together we are advancing in the construction of a much more transparent and responsible municipality”, he added.
