Cardozo, 51, arrived in Guatemala a year ago with the goal of leading Municipal to the 32nd title in its history, but in 54 games at the helm of the club from the country’s capital, he fell short of his goals.
The Paraguayan team was eliminated in the semifinals of the Apertura 2021 tournament last December by Comunicaciones, its closest rival, which also snatched the final of the Clausura 2022 tournament last Sunday, with an aggregate score of 2-0.
Municipal detailed in a press release that the entity’s board of directors and Cardozo “ended their contractual relationship” in a decision “by mutual agreement.”
Of the 54 games he has played in Guatemala, Cardozo won 26 games, drew 14 and also lost 14 games, including the two in the final last week against Comunicaciones, both by the slightest difference.
The Municipal board added that they “wish Cardozo much success” in the future and added that they will “analyze” different candidates to fill the position left by the Paraguayan coach.
