The multicolor coalition will meet in Plaza Varela to hear results on Sunday

Next Sunday night, the government coalition plans a joint event in Plaza Varela, once the results of the elections are known. This meeting seeks to celebrate the maturation of the alliance that has characterized the administration of President Luis Lacalle Pou, with the expectation of a more agile future in the relations between its members.

Despite the internal crises that have tested the coalition, its leaders are confident in the solidity achieved during these years. The negotiation of a common program and the carrying out of the symbolic act in the square will bring together all the parties that make up the coalition, which should be a more efficient process compared to 2019.

Delgado depends on the other parties for a result in the runoff

Álvaro Delgado, candidate of the National Party, has expressed his commitment to this idea during the closing of his campaign in Las Piedras. In his speech, he sent a “special greeting” to the allied parties, including Colorado, Independiente, Cabildo Abierto and the Partido Constitucional Ambientalista. In his vision, “the National Party is going to have to be the locomotive,” which underlines the interdependence necessary for the successful functioning of the coalition.

The intention is for the gathering of candidates to take place in Varela Square, thus anticipating the subsequent electoral events that, in 2019, took two weeks to become a reality. After the elections that year, negotiations led to the creation of the “Commitment for the country”, but the long-awaited official “photo” of all partners was delayed until November 10.

Although the path this year seems clearer and faster, there are still open conversations between the teams of the different candidates. From Cabildo Abierto, “doubts” have been expressed about the convenience of a meeting if the results do not favor the ruling party and the Frente Amplio achieves the parliamentary majority.

President Lacalle Pou has urged leaders to “always discuss knowing that there is a day after”, remembering the lessons of the past. Similarly, five years earlier, after the result of the general elections, the coalition candidates met at the Lacalle Pou command to accompany him in his celebration. Now, we seek to repeat that spirit of unity.
