The Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) signed four agreements with social institutions in the central east of Uruguay and inaugurated the works of a club carried out with funds from Social Agreements. This program tripled its resources so that the institutions fulfilled their functions adequately and that the achievements were “a shared effort”, indicated the undersecretary of the portfolio, Juan José Olaizola.
In the activities, carried out yesterday, the national director of Architecture of the portfolio, Santiago Borsari, and representatives of the municipalities of Cerro Largo and Treinta Tres also participated.
The agenda began with the signing of an agreement with the San Francisco de Sales Society, Obra Social Picapiedras, in the city of Melo. The portfolio will contribute 3,300,000 pesos and the institution 700,000. The funds will be allocated to the remodeling and expansion of educational rooms. This entity encompasses three projects: the Padre Cacho child and family care center (CAIF), the Flintstones children’s club, and the Nuestra Esperanza youth center, which care for around 300 children, adolescents, and families of more than 10 neighborhoods in a situation of social vulnerability. The objective of the work is to carry out social, educational and recreational activities for the community.
Then, the authorities inaugurated the works in the Unión club, in the capital of Cerro Largo, for which the ministry contributed 7,000,000 pesos to reform the headquarters and the 1,500,000 establishment. The infrastructure work included the restoration of the skylight, the expansion of the headquarters and the recovery of outdoor spaces, including the pool.
In the afternoon, the leaders went to the Treinta y Tres department, where they signed an agreement with the Uruguay Center in the town of Vergara. The MTOP collaborated with 5,000,000 pesos and the institution will have 620,000. This amount will allow general repairs, waterproofing and replacement of roofs. In return, the center must offer its facilities for 15 hours a week for schools no. 17 and 50, the Vergara high school and the CAIF in the area, for a period of ten years. The Uruguay Center was founded in 1920, has 200 members, and the facilities are used for sports and social activities.
In addition, the authorities agreed with the Barrio Artigas Cycling and Social Club, in the city of Treinta y Tres, the contribution of 4,950,000 pesos and the institution will allocate 1,300,000. With these funds, a multipurpose room and accommodation for athletes will be built. In return, the club will provide its headquarters to schools in the area for a period of ten years. These agreements are relevant due to the social, cultural and sports functions carried out by the supported entities, Olaizola said at a press conference. He added that the resources for the maintenance of the infrastructure “many times are scarce and not enough”, and that is when the State “appears as a necessary partner”.
The funds allocated to the Social Agreements program tripled in this period of government, due to the importance of institutions developing and fulfilling their functions adequately, through “a shared effort”, he considered.
