MIAMI, United States. — Prisoners and former political prisoners of 11J, as well as their relatives, announced this Monday the emergence of an association to demand the immediate release of people convicted of participating in the anti-government protests that took place on July 11 and 12, 2021.
Under the name of the Movement of Political Prisoners and Expressions 11J (M11J), the platform brings together historical dissidents who have spent time in jail and new prisoners, reports the Agency EFE.
The association maintains that it will request the freedom of all those who have been punished “for expressing their political ideas” or for peacefully seeking “democratic change” in Cuba.
According to the report of EFEthe organization aspires to become “one of the voices of those” who have “shared the harsh and inhumane conditions of Cuban prisons and are still unjustly imprisoned for promoting and defending their human rights.”
In addition to the amnesty for the prisoners of 11J, the new platform also calls for the release of “all those imprisoned for these reasons” and “the decriminalization of human rights.”
The M11J also intends to support the relatives, denounce “the difficult conditions of the prisons in Cuba,” which include “systematic violations of the prison regulations and the constant situations of prison violence.”
The executive committee of the M11J will be made up of former prisoners Adrián Curuneaux Stevens and Yuniel Herrera Rodríguez.
