The most spectacular images of the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games come to an end with a big party and a monumental play at the State of Francein the heart of the city of lights.

With iconic moments such as the symphonic version of La Marseillaise – the French anthem – that kicked off the event, the massive celebratory work designed by artistic director Thomas Jolly, an epic appearance by actor Tom Cruise, and performances by the band Phoenix, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg, Paris said goodbye to the Olympics in style and handed the banner over to Los Angeles.

As was the case at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, the ceremony also included a podium for the marathon medals: Dutch marathon runner Sifan Hassan received Olympic gold in front of a packed stadium, in a unique celebration of the competitions.

Ethiopian athlete Tigst Assefa took silver and Kenyan Hellen Obiri took bronze.
