In the southwest of Medellín, capital of Antioquia, stands San Antonio de Prado, one of the most populated townships in Colombia and also one of the fastest growing in recent years. Beyond its church, San Antonio de Prado stands out for its natural wealth. The township has ravines, green areas and rural landscapes that still survive urban growth, making it an environmental lung for Medellín. These characteristics have promoted ecological tourism initiatives and recreational activities linked to nature.
Urban growth has been one of the township’s greatest challenges. In recent years, the arrival of new housing projects and the increase in population have transformed its social and economic dynamics. Although this has brought employment and commerce opportunities, it has also generated challenges in mobility, public services and territorial planning.
Even so, San Antonio de Prado retains its own identity that differentiates it from the rest of Medellín. Its traditional festivals, its community life and its historical heritage maintain it as a territory with a town soul, which continues to be pride for its inhabitants and a place of interest for those seeking to know a different facet of the capital of Antioquia.
