The Labor Minister, Gloria Inés Ramírez, invited all the contracting parties to make the payment on time of the premium services for domestic workers, whose deadline is until December 20.
(How to calculate the Christmas bonus that must be paid this year-end).
The head of the labor portfolio said this Saturday in the framework of the Binding Regional Dialogues that take place in Ibagué: “This benefit corresponds to 30 days of salary per year or proportional to the time worked, and is made in two payments: in June and December.”
Those who provide services as domestic workers, performing tasks such as cleaning, cooking, washing, ironing; gardeners, farm caretakers, drivers and babysitters, among others, are entitled to the service premium.
(How long do companies have to pay the premium?).
The obligation for employers to make this recognition is established in Law 1788 of July 7, 2016.
“For domestic workers, who are mainly women, we are proposing to comply with the standards that the Ministry of Labor has and we will monitor so that this group is also formalized,” assured Ramírez Ríos.
He also recalled that by making the payment on time, sanctions are avoided: “The non-cancellation of this type of social benefits generates fines of one day’s salary for each day of delay, which means between 1 and 5 million pesos, in 2022 values.”.
