This Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport announced, through its Official Gazette, that the Government approved the call for public tender to renew the San Martín train line.
As referred wallet, “the call for International Public Tender 01/2022 was approved for the design and construction of the renovation of tracks and signaling of the General San Martín railway, from Retiro to Pilar station”. This work will require an investment of $52,061 million by the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of TransportIn addition, it authorized the General Directorate of Sectoral and Special Programs and Projects “to carry out the call and carry out all the necessary procedures to carry out the bidding procedure, leaving the approval and award of the tender in charge of Transport”.
The resolution published this Tuesday also establishes that “the Evaluation Commission of Offers in Projects and Programs with External Financing will be in charge of carrying out the analysis of the proposals that are presented.”
The project seeks to comprehensively improve the services of the San Martín train, on its main route of 55 kilometerswhich will directly benefit more than 2.6 million monthly passengers and, indirectly, more than 16.6 million people who live in the AMBA.
In addition, the generation of “direct and indirect jobs for the works and the purchase of supplies” will be promoted, according to the Government; Likewise, the workers of the railway line will be benefited, who will be able to carry out their tasks in a safer environment.
The resolution also establishes that “the loan contract model of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) was approved, destined to partially finance the San Martín Railroad Improvement Project, Retiro-Pilar Branch, for an amount up to US$400 million” .
What kind of renovations will be done
The transport portfolio details that on the railway line Strategic works will be carried out to reduce travel times, reduce accident rates and greenhouse gas emissions.
Likewise, the project seeks to improve the safety, reliability and comfort of the service, giving the line a longer useful life, which, in turn, will reduce maintenance processes.
