In the last few hours, Club Atlético Progreso expressed its absolute repudiation of the unnecessary action of the police, prior to the sports match against Cerro, in which the removal of badges that were part of the clothing of some fans was requested, and with the review from the official store of the La Teja club in search of material of a “political nature”, supposedly from the “Yes”.
As a result of the video of the police procedure going viral, in which violent attitudes are never seen, the Ministry of the Interior issued a statement through which it states that it was a routine procedure in the official match played on Friday 25 at the Abraham Paladino stadium, of Club Atlético Progreso.
“The control carried out by the police personnel is routine and is done in all sporting events, not only to the public, but also to the suppliers that bring packages to the stages,” says the Secretary of State.
It also indicates that these procedures are carried out “preventively in search of weapons, drugs or prohibited items such as fireworks or flags that exceed the permitted size.”
According to the Ministry of the Interior, “this procedure was recorded in the body cameras of the troops.”
Likewise, it is ensured that “no fan was denied entry to the stadium for any reason.”
From the Ministry of the Interior it is ruled out that the procedure carried out by the troops was a control in search of support elements for the ‘Yes’ campaign, this type of statement is “absolutely inadmissible and very unfair to the correct and sacrificed police procedure”.
repercussions
But the police procedure in the field of Progreso, before the match against Cerro, generated the reaction of legislators from the Broad Front.
The Frente Amplio deputies Sebastián Valdomir and Bettiana Díaz questioned the director of Coexistence and Citizen Security of the Ministry of the Interior, Santiago González, about the reasons for said procedure.
Given this, González replied that “it is something routine, it is done in every game. What’s more, if they don’t, it’s wrong.”
“I know that the Broad Front is against the Police. I know that the PIT-CNT wants them once again with their hands tied against crime. They are looking for fireworks. What is the problem? They are here to take care of us”, sentenced the hierarch of the Interior.
He also responded to the deputies that “he clearly has no idea the task of the Police in the stadiums. This is routine in all matches. They look for fireworks and illicit items. Loosen the handle against the Police. They take care of us.”
