At noon, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamadconfirmed to the media that a New bill to ban oil exploitation using the ‘fracking’ method on Colombian soil.
It is worth mentioning that this will be the fifth attempt to restrict this practice in the country through legislative means. The last time a similar initiative was filed, It ended up sinking in the Fourth Commission of the House of Representatives, on June 20, with two debates remaining..

“We are going to propose a new law to ban fracking. We are working with the Minister of the Interior, Juan Fernando Cristo, to ensure the political conditions necessary for the project to be approved.“, said the head of the portfolio.

The minister also assured that the filing of the bill will be accompanied by a “urgent message” to be discussed with tweezers in the Congress.

Regarding the country’s gas situation, the minister added: “(Sic) We hope to say now with this project that we are going to strengthen the energy transition, that we are going to invest in our capacity for innovation. (…) We share the difficult situation of gas in a diagnosis; there are, at this moment, explorations to achieve those times of transition, but there is no talk of when we should start to reduce demand and to gradually reduce the demand for gas.“.
