The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries confirmed cases of bird flu in backyard chickens in a house in El Monarca in Municipality F of Montevideo.
In response to the complaint, the ministry confirmed the presence of influenza in ten hens that were found dead. The MGAP immediately intervened and applied the corresponding protocol for this type of case.
It also treated another suspected case in the Cerro de Montevideo area that was negative.
The first cases of bird flu were detected in Maldonado, where one hundred birds died in February. After that, a health emergency was declared.
The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries urges not to touch, not to move and to give notice in case of finding dead or sick birds to the emails to [email protected], [email protected] or to the zonal offices premises of the MGAP or the Ministry of Environment.
Through a statement, the MGAP recalled that consuming sick birds does not cause harm but it can be harmful to come into contact with sick birds.
