The Ministry of Labor promotes green jobs in the country

Guatemala City. – The Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivaresrevealed that in the country they are promoting green jobs and strengthening the Clean energy industryto guarantee the incorporation of workers to a new emerging labor market, which helps reduce the ecological footprint and mitigate climate change.

During his participation in the High Level International Seminar “Keys to overcome inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean” held in Guatemala, the official said they have the firm commitment to develop strategies that not only mitigate the Effects of climate changebut also promote Labor opportunitiessuch as the training of specialized technicians in the management of sargazos.

Through his presentation entitled “Labor Inclusion and Climate Change: Challenges in Inequality Contexts”, Olivares explained that the country is especially vulnerable to the effects of global warmingsince it often suffers the impact of hurricanes and storms that cause significant losses in biodiversity, in addition to sargassum and its negative effects.

In that sense, he stressed that a Comprehensive evaluation of the impact of climate change In the different labor sectors, with the objective of Identify the most vulnerable areas and design specific interventions by the government, both for workers and for affected companies.

He also highlighted the Implementation of waste management projectsone of the factors that most affect forests and the conservation of ecosystems.

He also indicated that, through the Professional Technical Training Institute (Infotep), of which he chairs the Council, programs of job training Centering green skills, preparing participants to face the challenges of climate change.

The minister highlighted the poverty reduction And inequality in the Dominican Republic, which he said has been motivated by the high minimum wage increasesthe decrease in unemployment and social policies in favor of the most vulnerable sectors.

Eddy Olivares reported that the Ministry of Labor is committed to the country’s labor policies being a effective tool to reduce inequalitiesprotect the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change and promote inclusive and sustainable development.
