The Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza, assured that the Pan American Health Organization – World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) does not recommend to date the application of vaccines against dengue and said that in order to make a determination in this regard, careful study should be done and sensitive about it, in order to protect the health of the population.
“The immunization strategic advisory group of the World Health Organization PAHO/WHO does not recommend this for outbreak use, does not recommend co-administration with other vaccines, Given the data on safety and immunogenicity are not yet available under these conditions,” said Auza.
This Tuesday the Municipal Council of Santa Cruz de la Sierra approved a bill to acquire the vaccine youetravalent against dengue, from the Japanese company Takeda, with the aim of palliate the progression of the disease.
Auza explained that the first commercially available candidate vaccine is CYD-TDV (Sanofi Pasteur’s Dengvaxia), a live attenuated quadrivalent vaccine that has already been registered in at least five countries (Mexico, Brazil, El Salvador, Paraguay and the Philippines) for use in persons 9 through 45 years of age and requires 3 doses in a sequential schedule of 0, 6, and 12 months. It is required to have had contact with the virus to be able to be administered.
He added that the Takeda laboratory Qdenga vaccine, which was recently licensed in Brazil, the application has not yet been started in the public service, and they are in the process of discussing to incorporate it at the private level.
“For the moment, as the national government that we had already analyzed this possibility, we continue to debate, the strategic advisory group PAHO/WHO Immunization Guide recommends that this is not a relevant time for its use”emphasized the minister of the area.
