The Ministry of Education sees the teaching strike in Boca Chica as “unjustified”

Escuela dominicana

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry described it as “unjustified.” Education the stoppage of teaching in 55 schools, which affects some 43 thousand students in the municipality of Boca Chica by the Session of the Dominican Association of Teachers that demands improvements in working conditions and schools.

Carlos Martínez, in charge of Social Empowerment of the School Infrastructure Directorate of the MINERD, said that the teachers’ complaints have “social” overtones and intentions to hinder teaching.

He said that three weeks ago they held a meeting in the School District in which the regional director, the District director, center directors, the Association of Parents and Friends of the Schools and the ADP, as well as the Mayor’s Office and the neighborhood council participated, where they agreed and reached a consensus on solutions based on a survey that they would carry out since there are infrastructure and other maintenance issues.

“A WhatsApp group was also created in which all the actors participate so that if they have any questions they communicate and the competent party responds directly, that was last Friday, but with the turn of the storm the turn of the agenda has changed, because there are priorities,” explained Martínez speaking on behalf of Roberto Herrera, DIE director.

He said that they were triggered this Monday with an unjustified protest mixing issues that are not within the competence of School Infrastructure, and he announced that this Tuesday they will offer a detailed report on the situation in relation to the real panorama.

“Infrastructure works are not done from today to tomorrow, it seems that there is more interest in generating chaos than in finding solutions, something worrying,” Martínez commented after indicating that there are processes to be exhausted, such as the case of contractors with the DGII who cannot charge volumes.

The Education authorities invited the leaders to comply with the school calendar; The union members’ complaint was announced in a statement on October 31, alleging that there is a marked deterioration in school infrastructure that requires repair, and others have been paralyzed for years.

The teachers’ day of struggle will conclude on Friday the 7th from 8:00 to 10 in the morning, according to the calendar they established.

Lifting

Martínez said that the technical areas of the MINERD have visited the demarcation on two occasions and the campus that is in the worst condition, this is the José Francisco Peña Gómez Center, which is the one that is in the worst condition and the demolition of the roof was recommended and the report is being submitted to be sent to the budget.

“They want things to be done immediately and it is not possible; that center was purchased by the MINERD two and a half years ago, apparently the proper evaluation was not carried out and it is one of the modules with the highest level of deterioration,” Martínez explained after specifying that even there they have been distributed to the students.

It meant that in most cases, they have painting and maintenance issues, as well as the leaks that worsened with the storm and we have to wait for the rains to stop.

The official announced that in the case of the Campo Lindo school, where they have 24 classrooms, the contractor promised to deliver it in December, which was one of the complex cases, and added that they have found complaints that can be resolved by school directors with the resources they manage, such as changing a light bulb. This article was originally published in The Day
