San Francisco de Macorís.- The Ministry of EconomyPlanning and Development (MEPyD) stressed that it is the Dominican Government’s commitment to reverse the unequal socioeconomic and labor conditions of the domestic work.
For this purpose, it accompanies the design and articulation of public policies to transform economic growth into quality of life for all people, regarding the home formalization measures announced by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.
Minister Pável Isa Contreras specified: “The Dominican Government advances in the recognition of the sector, as a job that must have the same working conditions as the rest of the branches of economic activity in the country, as well as recognizing its contributions to the economy and the society”.
He recalled that the Dominican Constitution, in its article 55, recognizes “household work” as an economic activity that produces wealth and social welfare, and that public institutions are called upon to incorporate this sector in the formulation and execution of public and social policies. , as is being done with the efforts to set up the National Care System in the country, within the framework of the Communities of Care pilot strategy.
Domestic work during 2021 meant the third most important branch of economic activity for the occupation of women in the country. Likewise, this work contributes to the access to the world of work for the rest of the employed people.
