The mining sector already has a technological platform

Supported under Microsoft Azure cloud services, the Ministry of Mines and Energy built integrate mean information platform that, through interoperability, integration and advanced analytics processes, brings together the most relevant data in the sector.

(ANM clarifies the differences between mineral production figures).

According to Microsoft, this tool stores the data and allows to know, interpret and take advantage of the relevant data for the country, such as the price of fuel, strategic gold, coal and nickel projects or analyze in detail the components of the unit cost of electrical energy.

It is noteworthy that there are more than 60 indicators available, which describe each pillar of the mining-energy sector in Colombia and which strengthen and optimize mining, energy and hydrocarbon operations.

(Colombia has intervened almost 1,000 illegal mines in the new Government).

Diana María Ochoa, manager of the IDB Credit, explained that the idea was born more than 10 years ago during the extractive boom.

“The Government wanted to make sure that it was clear about all the variables that consolidated Colombia’s competitiveness vis-à-vis the region. There was a fear that investors would prefer to go to Peru and Chile because there was not enough information to make investment decisions. This situation made it possible to demonstrate the deficiencies of the sector in terms of information management. From there arose the determination to formulate the project”commented the manager of the IDB Credit.
