How much is the minimum wage?
With this, the general minimum wage will go from 172 to 207 pesos dailywhile for the border area it increases from 260 to 312 pesos per day.
Luisa María Alcalde, Secretary of Labor, reported that this measure benefits 6.4 million Mexicans and that the agreement to raise the minimum wage was unanimous between employers, workers and the government.
With the adjustments, the minimum wage per month will be 1,584 pesos for workers in the border area and 1,052 pesos for the rest of the country, the official explained during her participation in the morning conference of the head of the Executive.
“This is good news because purchasing power is gradually recovering. We have a very good relationship with the labor sector, but I want to highlight the participation of the business sector, which is where there is sometimes more resistance. We have counted on support and only On one occasion we have not reached a consensus,” said President López Obrador.
The 20% increase in the minimum wage seeks to lessen the effects of inflation that has reached its highest level in more than 20 years and that currently exceeds 8%, that is, it doubles the Bank of Mexico’s target of 3%.
“We do not see risks of inflation skyrocketing and we are making a plan with a subsidy of more than 300,000 million pesos so that the prices of gasoline and diesel do not increase (in 2023),” said the president without giving further details.
