The 55-year-old Mexican was proposed by Banco Santander to deal with the Spanish institution at a global level, but the approval of the European Central Bank is still required. Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of Santander México and the Corporate Practices, Nominations and Compensation Committee will begin the process of selecting the person who will replace Grisi Checa in the management of Santander México.
Héctor Grisi Checa arrived at Santander in 2015, as CEO of Santander Mexico and led the bank to position itself among the top banks in the country in SMEs, companies, mortgages and project financing.
In 2019, he was named regional manager for North America, achieving the best results for the United States in 2021, with a profit of 2,750 million dollars. These achievements, according to a company statement, led Santander to choose an internal candidate “who has been successful in the key North American market” to lead the bank’s global business.
“I have had the great opportunity to lead a team of more than 25,000 people that transformed the operation and culture of Banco Santander México, despite living in a very complex environment. Now I assume my new responsibility to lead a team of almost 200,000 people around the world and continue building the best global financial services platform,” said Grisi Checa in the statement.
Before working at Santander, Héctor Grisi served for 18 years at Credit Suisse, where he became CEO and CEO of Credit Suisse Mexico.
