Neighbors and merchants from the neighborhoods of Flowers and Avellaneda Park they declared this Wednesday, in the Buenos Aires legislaturethe refusal of the new Metrobus projected by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires on Alberdi and Directorio avenues for public transport, considering the work “unnecessary”.

Clara SanguinettiDirector of Design and Implementation of the Government of Buenos Aires, explained that it will be a one-way Metrobus that will have an extension of 5.8 kilometers and will go in the direction of General Paz through Alberdi and towards the center through Directorio and maintained that the goal will be to “improve the public transport travel times.

Unlike other existing exclusive lanes, the official explained that in this case “the seasons will be smaller” since they will not occupy “the entire avenue and since it is a one-way lane, it does not have a central flowerbed location.”

As for parking, it will not be allowed; however, loading and unloading operations will remain authorized.

precisely, the parking restriction was one of the points raised by neighbors and merchantsabove all, those who have their premises on Avenida Alberdi in the commercial pole dedicated to the sale of sanitaryware.

In this regard, Sebastian Unru, a neighbor and merchant in the area, stated that “There is nothing beneficial about the work, but it is going to harm us because it is going to take the job of 2,000 people who work in the commercial area.”

Jorge Elger, president of the Alberdi avenue merchants association, described the work as “unnecessary” and added that “if they want to solve the problem of transportation and security, they can look for alternatives that improve transportation with urban furniture that allows areas of ascent and descent”.

For her part, Gabriela Bergesio, a neighbor of Flores, warned about the inconveniences that the new corridor will bring in relation to the existence of several educational establishments on the selected route.

Coincidentally, Julián Cappa asked about the available places that will be left to park school buses and private cars after the ban on stopping.

While, Juan Modarellilegislator of the Frente de Todos, evaluated that, after the report of the Buenos Aires official, “It is clear that the need to reorder traffic is not primarily with public transport.”

And the deputy of the FDT Juan Manuel ValdesFor his part, he questioned the lack of information in the Legislature on this project prior to the meeting managed by legislator Fidel, for which he raised the need for “general legislation on the Metrobus”,

“These are initiatives of the Executive Branch whose approval does not go through this house and thus policies that the public is unaware of end up coming out,” he said.
