The Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret) reported today on the final splicing of the viaduct that connects the extension of the Metro from Santo Domingo to The Alcarrizos. With this stage completed, it indicates that the civil works register a significant progress of 95%, consolidating the entry of the project into its final phase.
He highlights that this is an assembly process that marks progress in the execution of this work, which is being supervised and audited by the firm Epsa-Labco and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), through the Ibero-Mexican company Typsa.
“He viaductwhich extends for 6.3 kilometers, has been developed under strict international quality standards, guaranteeing its durability and security“, indicates in a press release.
Currently, work includes the placement of railsthe installation of electrical poles for train tracks and systems of lightning in the stations. Furthermore, the drainage systems in the tunnel of 940 meters, whose excavation ended months ago, they are practically completed, according to Opret.
In this sense, the director of the Opret, Raphael Santos Pérez, expressed his satisfaction with the progress reached.
He stressed that the project has the support of national and international companies of “high prestige”, ensuring an execution that “meets the expectations of citizens.”
“This achievement reflects not only the technical progress of the project, but also our commitment to excellence in each stage of construction,” said Santos.
About the project
The work would be inaugurated in the second quarter of 2025 and covers a stretch of 7.3 kilometers, as well as the construction of five stations that will be part of the system of transport integrated Metro-Santo Domingo Cable Car.
- This new extension of Line 2 (called 2C) will decongest the traffic from The Alcarrizos to kilometer 9 (María Montez Station), through an adjacent marginal that will accompany the viaductconverting the section from The Alcarrizos up to kilometer 9 in a express which will allow Cibao citizens to quickly access the capital. This work will impact more than one million inhabitants.
The project contemplates the adaptation vial of the roads adjacent to the marginal to facilitate a better flow of vehicles in the area.
With this work, the Opret guarantees that the security vialuser congestion will be reduced at kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway and, with it, a considerable decrease in CO2 emissions and pollution of the air.
