The members of the commission evaluating benefits are sworn in to heroes of January 9, 1964

In the framework of the commemoration of the 58 years of the student achievement of January 9, 1964 and in compliance with Law 163 of September 10, 2020, this Wednesday the swearing-in of the commission that will evaluate and determine the benefits was carried out in recognition of the surviving heroes and relatives of the martyrs of that momentous date.

The Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, called on the survivors and relatives of the martyrs to go to the Single Window to deliver documents and to be able to comply with their requests.

He stated that it is a commitment, that after 58 years of waiting, the value and patriotism of the number of Panamanians who gave their lives, and what they had at that time, be recognized for the rescue of sovereignty.

We can point out that after the sanction of the aforementioned law, the One-Stop-Shop-January 9 was created, with the function of receiving the requests that citizens have to present, considering their condition as holder of a right for their participation in the events of January 9, 10, 11 and 12, 1964.

You can present personal testimonies, photos, newspaper clippings, medical certificates, personal suitability certificate, among others, and will be attended from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday. You can also send the information via email to [email protected]

The commission is chaired by the Minister of Education. The ministers of Social Development, María Inés Castillo, and of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, also accompany him in that commission; on behalf of the Canal Sentinels, Joaquín Vásquez and 3 representatives of the beneficiaries.

Let us remember that January 9, or Martyrs’ Day, pays tribute to the Panamanians who mobilized in 1964 to fulfill the agreements signed between Panama and the United States.
