Has a loved one passed away and you don’t know how to process the reimbursement of expenses? The Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) has a benefit for members and, in those moments of pain, it covers part of the burial expenses. Here we indicate what the amounts are, which go according to age; and what are the requirements and procedures to follow.
Who receives this benefit? Those insured to the Free SIS, Independent SIS and Entrepreneurial SIS, SIS For All and SIS Micro-business insurance plans, the institution indicates on its website.
For their part, the Regional Decentralized Units (UDRs) and the Regional Macro Managements-GMRs will be in charge of monitoring so that the deadlines for the recognition and reimbursement of the so-called Economic Burial Benefit (PES) are met.
WHAT IS THE AMOUNT THAT THE SIS SHOULD REFUND ME FOR BURIAL EXPENSES?
The SIS has the Economic Burial Benefit-PES, which is a benefit that members have, and whose coverage depends on the age of the deceased. The minimum amount S / 350 in the case of death (more than 28 weeks of gestation); as in the case of newborns up to less than 29 days. It is followed by S/700 for deceased from 29 days to those under 12 years of age; and S/1,000 in the case of those over 12 years of age.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SIS TO REIMBURSE MY FUNERAL EXPENSES?
In order for the SIS to reimburse you for the expense you made for the burial (Economic Burial Benefit-PES), the person who incurred the expenses must present the following requirements:
- Request for reimbursement of the economic burial benefit filled out and signed by the accredited person of the deceased
- Proof of original payment, duly paid, for the funeral services of the deceased insured, issued in the name of the borrower.
- Death certificate issued by Reniec.
- Copy of the Death Certificate.
- Sworn Declaration of Expenses for Economic Benefit of Funeral.
- Copy of cremation authorization. (If this is the case)
- If you are not a close relative: Affidavit of 4th degree of consanguinity or 3rd degree of affinity of the accredited with respect to the deceased.
- If the expenses were made in a rural area: Affidavit of Expenses for services performed.
HOW DO I DO THE PROCESS SO THAT THE SIS REIMBURSE ME MY FUNERAL EXPENSES?
To request the benefit of the Economic Burial Benefit (PES), you must go to the Health Service Provider Institutions-IPRESS before 60 calendar days from the day following the death of the insured. You must go to the place closest to the member’s last address. Follow the steps below and take into account the deadlines:
- Submit the required documents. The health center will verify them.
- If there are observations, these will be recorded in the charge document that is delivered to the borrower: in a period not exceeding 2 business days, the corrections must be resolved, otherwise, the file will be returned.
- The payment will be available within a period of 4 to 6 months from the date the data is verified.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO COLLECT THE REIMBURSEMENT FOR FUNERAL EXPENSES FROM THE SIS?
Once the SIS has given you the go-ahead and made the disbursement for the burial expenses incurred, you have 9 months to collect it from the date it was issued. The withdrawal can be done at any branch of Banco de la Nación.
