The national COE accepted the request of Ecuafútbol for the qualifying match that will be played on March 29 in Guayaquil.
The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) approved this Wednesday (March 9, 2022) that the match Ecuador vs. Argentinanext March 29 in Guayaquil, is played with 75 percent of the capacity at Monumental Stadium.
That decision was also extended to the match return next Tuesday between Barcelona and América Mineiro, from Brazil, for the third qualifying phase of the Copa Libertadores, which will also be played in the same stadium.
The COE responded to the request of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) and Barcelona so that the arrival of stadium fansunder other biosafety regulations that seek to reduce the risk of contagion by COVID-19.
Juan Zapata, president of the COEspecified that with the capacity established of 75 percent, the Monumental stadium ‘Banco Pichincha’, owned by Barcelona, can have 42,748 seats for fans.
The selection of Ecuador ranks third in the South American qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, behind Brazil and Argentinafirst and second, respectively.
With 25 points, Ecuador will close the qualifiers with the matches against Argentinaon March 29, and against Paraguay, as a visitor, five days before.
For its part, Barcelona will try to close its qualification for the group stage of the Libertadores in its stadium, after Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against the Brazilian América, debutant in the tournament.
For the matches of the national championship, organized by the Liga Pro, the capacity current is 60%, although several clubs have requested that it be extended to 100%, with the aim of allowing the reactivation of the battered economy of national football. EFE
