The two factions of the Movimiento Al Socialismo (MAS) united and endorsed the operation to capture the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, executed on December 28, 2002. It happened after an embarrassing and violent interpellation to the Minister of Government, Eduardo Del Castillo in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly. There were blows and “shocking” between opposition and official legislators right in front of the front.

151 legislators attended, 88 of whom approved the so-called “simple agenda” that implied the validation of the police operation led by Del Castillo to capture Camacho in Santa Cruz and its subsequent transfer to La Paz. With 12 fewer votes, the authority would have passed a vote for censorship.

The Minister of Government informed, at the end of the act, that still must respond to five other interpellatory sheetsamong which are questions formulated by legislators from the so-called “evista” wing of the MAS.

“I understand that his bench receives him with applause, but his bench also asks us to question him. Let’s see what happens when we tackle the topic of cool cars.”, said Senator Andrea Barrientos (CC), one of the questioning legislators.

Promoted by eight senators from the opposition Comunidad Ciudadana (CC) alliance, yesterday’s session lasted for more than eight hours. At that time, Del Castillo responded to 11 questions related to the “excess of the police force” in that operation against the governor last December, although at various times he moved away from the axis of the questions to point out, for example, that the government of Luis Arce was elected by 3.5 million votes and that it will not “allow another coup de State”.

The authority, when answering each question, accused opponents of “thieves, fascists” and “of promoting criminal actions”during the protest that took place in Santa Cruz, precisely, after the capture of Luis Fernando Camacho, but also during the 36-day strike, an aspect that was not included in the reason for the questioning of the opposition.

When the Minister of Government had finished presenting the 11 answers, he said that would make “a political assessment” of the events that led to the apprehension of Governor Camacho And it was when the fight began amid insults and shouts from Del Castillo who described the actions of the Police as “heroic” in the face of complaints of violation of the rights of civilians and journalists by uniformed officers.

The Opposition assembly members went down to the place where Del Castillo was and displayed banners accusing him of lying. They also claimed him for making allusions to legislators when the authority asked them to “review the dictionary” or current laws.

A group of MAS deputies took the banner from deputy María René Álvarez (We believe) and at least seven legislators crowded. Del Castillo’s security team intervened and removed him from the scene, while the embarrassing events took place.

Outside the legislative building a group of activists from Columna Sur harangued refrains in support of the minister and Senator Andrea Barrientos (CC) said that giant screens were put up in Migration offices in several cities so that public officials can follow Del Castillo’s intervention. “With what resources was that done? This is inadmissible,” she stated.

On June 8, 2021, in a similar act, Del Castillo was summoned to respond to the reasons for the arrest of the former president, Jeanine Áñez, but that interpellation led to blows between Senator Henry Montero (Creemos) and Deputy Antonio Colque (MAS ). That act was also preceded by allusions and insults from Del Castillo.”

“I have not invented anything nor have I named the legislators”, said the minister at the climax of the event and after the interruption due to the violence that occurred in the Legislative. “Why so much hatred, so much allusion and disqualifications,” questioned Senator Cecilia Requena.

Del Castillo, during his presentation, justified the police mobilizationly assured that Camacho had 45 security personnel, some of them trained in Israel and the United States in the custody of senior leaders.

He said that the Police did not use firearms and there is not a single person injured. “Mr. Camacho did not suffer any scratches “he said and also ruled out that there had been an “excessive repression.”

Vice President David Choquehuanca, who led the session, asked the minister to “frame himself in the content of the questions” and asked at least 11 times for “respect” in the face of interruptions in speeches by opposition legislators.

However, Del Castillo maintained that “radical groups” attacked the police officers with “hate” during the protests.

also yesterdayJustice denied Camachoconfined for five months in Chonchocoro, an appeal against the prison authorities that on April 18 they had forced him to attend a hearing connected to the supply of serum that he receives every 21 days. This “freedom action” was raised to avoid these mishaps.

The governor suffers from Churg-Strauss syndrome, Therefore, it requires that immunoglobulin be administered every 21 days, a serum that costs Bs 17,000 and whose cold chain was put at risk when a nurse was not allowed to enter the prison because Camacho had to attend a virtual hearing.

It was for this reason that Martín Camacho, attorney for the governor, filed a release action against Juan Carlos Limpias, director of the Penitentiary Regime, and against the doctors of the La Paz prison. However, the president of the Second Constitutional Chamber denied the appeal requested by Luis Fernando Camacho, justifying that the right to defense and life was not harmed, since attendance at virtual hearings within the prison is legal.
