HOLY SUNDAY EAST. – The Santo Domingo Este y Norte Prosecutor’s Office managed to have 15 years in prison sentenced against a man who injured another with machetes, until he was left for dead, in an event that occurred in 2021, in the Brisas del Eden sector, Santo Sunday East.
The Second Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo Este, chaired by Judge Josefina Ubiera, handed down the sentence to Carlos Manuel Sosa Mercedes (Alex Boca) for the attempted murder of Eric Manuel Brito Rosario (Dundin).
Sosa Mercedes, who will serve her sentence in the La Victoria National Penitentiary, must also pay compensation of 500,000 pesos.
The file instrumented by the investigative prosecutor Edwin Cuello reports that the events had been occurring since 2020, after both men argued until they physically confronted each other out of jealousy, since the victim was a partner of the perpetrator’s wife.
The report establishes that, after this confrontation, on April 7, 2021, around 2:30 in the afternoon, while the victim was in front of a business in the aforementioned sector, the now convicted Carlos Manuel Sosa Mercedes appeared, armed with a machete, along with another person.
He explains that the aggressor, without saying a word, struck the victim several times with a machete in different parts of the body, until he was left for dead, as stated in the legal medical certificate. After committing the act, the convicted man fled the place, being arrested two months later.
The Public Ministry assigned to the facts the legal classification contained in articles 265, 266, 2-295, 296, 297 and 302, on association of criminals and attempted murder by stalking and premeditation and articles 83 and 86 of the Law 631-16, for the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.
