Santo Domingo.- This past January 6, the day of the Three Kings was celebrated, a tradition rooted in the dominican culturein which children are the protagonists.
The magic begins a day before, the boys and girls leave Gaspar, Mechor, Baltasar and their camels; water, cookies, and grass for them to eat, and in exchange they offer gifts.
Also, the charm continues on January 6 when it becomes a non-working day according to Dominican law. While parents see this holiday as an opportunity to enjoy with their children in the park and enjoy the toys that the Three Wise Men left them.
This year according to Law No. 139-97, by which it establishes the transfer of the date of the holiday to this Monday 9.

Parades of “the Three Wise Men” of the DN Firefighters
The Three Kings Day Parade is an activity carried out by the Firefighters of the National District, since 1948, suspended only during the pandemic in 2020.
The journey lasts more than an hour, where the Three Wise Men parade on horses, and exhibitors sing, play and dance during the journey.
“The Three Kings Day Parade is a traditional activity and highly anticipated by the Santo Domingo community and especially by the citizens of the Colonial City, which was attended by more than 500 people, including adults and children,” said José Luis. Activities at the National Palace
With the phrase The Three Wise Men will arrive at the Palace, the Government invited Dominicans to participate in the activity in the palace gardens where the laughter and hopes of the little ones were felt.
While, that same day, the first lady Raquel Arbaje, delivered toys to 500 boys and girls residing in the Las Cañitas sector, in the National District.
“The boys and girls of the Dominican Republic are deserving of all our love and attention,” said Arbaje.
Swap plastic for toys
On the other hand, the mayor’s office of the National District this Sunday will carry out the activity of exchanging plastic bottles for toys, which has become the most anticipated by parents in this sector.
“This Christmas, don’t throw away your plastic bottles!, and change them for a toy; the mayor’s office will strengthen its campaign to reduce environmental pollution levels in the city” is this year’s motto.
