Handcrafted sculptures, lights and fantasy mark the official start of Christmas on the border.
News Colombia.
With the arrival of December, Colombia shines again. From north to south, cities and municipalities turn on millions of lights to officially announce the beginning of Christmas, and Cúcuta is no exception. Right on the border with Venezuela, the northern Santander capital inaugurated its Christmas lighting with a show that is already beginning to attract the attention of residents and visitors.
The municipal administration, together with CENS –EPM group–, presented “Stories that unite us”, the montage that illuminates the Malecón and various sectors of the city. The lighting ceremony was led by Mayor Jorge Acevedo and the manager of CENS, José Miguel González, who highlighted the cultural and tourist value of this commitment.

The 2.5 kilometer route includes sculptures made by a team of 12 artisans, who transformed traditional stories into figures full of light and color. This artistic intervention seeks to connect families with the stories that have marked generations and that are now part of the December landscape of Cúcuta.
According to local authorities, the experience was designed as an immersive route that awakens the imagination of children and adults. The idea is that the lighting functions as a meeting space for locals and visitors, reinforcing the sense of community and cultural identity during the Christmas season.
With this proposal, Cúcuta hopes to position itself as one of the most striking destinations in the country in December, boosting the local economy and tourism. The Malecón, transformed by thousands of lights, thus becomes an unmissable plan for those looking to experience a Christmas full of tradition, art and magic.
