The Ministry of Economy (SE) relaunched the seal Made in Mexico as part of a strategy to strengthen the domestic marketboost national production and reinforce Mexican identity. The badge seeks highlight the value of what is made in national territory and increase the competitiveness of companies that bet on local manufacturing.
The seal It is part of Plan Mexico, initiative of President Claudia Sheinbaum that integrates 18 strategic actions for the economic development of the country, one of them focuses on national supply and consumption.
Today it is a roadmap to strengthen the national economy and within Plan Mexico there is talk of substituting imports, to produce what we use,” explains Bárbara Botello Santibáñez, responsible for the National Brand Plan Made in Mexico.
The initiative seeks benefit all sectors, such as food, construction, appliances, financial services, health, among others. Currently, there are 3,640 registered brands and products such as Oxxo, Liverpool, Bimbo, Plata and Grupo Modelo.
The Made in Mexico seal was released in 1978 during the six-year term of José López Portillo and 47 years later it was reactivated to boost the economy in the country.
When Marcelo Ebrard arrived as Secretary of Economy, he said that the seal had to be a public policy and a permanent communication campaign. This is important, because we do not want to be hopeful about other economies,” says Bárbara Botello.
Potential in Mexican ingenuity
Bárbara Botello points out that there is a lot of talent in the country, but it is not given the boost it should be, which needs to change, becauseyes There are Mexican businesses that have promoted innovation in the countryAn example of this is the light sports aircraft Halcón 2.1, manufactured by the company Horizontec, which obtained the seal for being manufactured with Mexican parts.
Also, he points out that within the territory they are doing medical devicesas in the case of Tijuana, which exports pacemakers, as well as the creation of electric vehicles; However, there is still a brain drain, so alliances with other institutions are necessary.
Such is the case of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the Ministry of Economy, which launched the initiative “Made in Mexico: Minds in Action”, with the purpose of ipromote national talent and provide protection for inventions.
We have seen Mexican inventions and we see a lot of talent. For example, in video games, we are the second country that consumes them the most, but who makes the most inventions? They are made by Mexicans, but the development is done abroad,” highlights Bárbara Botello.
