AREQUIPA, Peru – Rafael Piorno, a 76-year-old Cuban doctor and candidate for the Spanish Popular Party in municipal elections, was found dead inside his home in the town of Aguadulce, Almería.
A report from the media Almeria Diary He points out that the pediatrician, despite being retired, continued to provide consultations from his home.
Piorno’s murder came to light on Sunday when one of his neighbours, worried about the doctor after not seeing him for two days, noticed blood at the entrance of the house and called the emergency number.
The authorities (Civil Guard and firefighters) arrived at the scene of the crime and found the body. The Cuban doctor had been stabbed three times and was tied up, police sources told the local media.
It is still unknown how many days the Cuban doctor had been dead and whether any valuables were missing from the house. The murder weapon has also not been found.
In this regard, the Almería Command told the Spanish newspaper that for the moment no further details could be given so as not to jeopardize the investigation.
Before the murder, Rafael Piorno had put his house up for sale, which led authorities to suspect that the crime could have been committed by one or more buyers.
Beyond his work as a health professionalThe Cuban was also notable in his community for his political activities, appearing on several lists of the Popular Party (PP) for the elections of the Roquetas de Mar City Council.
Although he did not become a councillor, he was on the PP lists for the municipal elections in May 2023. He then took 22nd place and the PP won the elections with an absolute majority that translated into 15 councillors.
