Sao Paulo., Thousands of people took to the streets of different cities around the world yesterday to participate in the LGBT+ Pride March, in which they advocated for more rights.

Several hundred thousand paraded in the traditional Sao Paulo march with the motto Vote with pride, for a policy that represents us. With this phrase, the marchers made reference to the electoral contest next October between the far-right president Jair Bolsonaro and the former leftist president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who leads the polls.

Held online for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 26th edition of the march once again toured the economic capital and most populous city in Brazil with 19 sound cars in a day full of color, music and messages of fight against any type of discrimination and of respect for diversity.

Discontent in Chile

Tens of thousands of people participated yesterday in the Chilean capital in the pride march, in which LGBT+ movements protested against the norm that sets sexual consent for the gay community at 18 years, four years more than for heterosexuals.

For me it is a very beautiful day, we are going to feel the permission to do what we want, without harming anyone, to feel that we are all equaldeclared Pablo Gaete, a clinical psychologist who participated in the demonstration.

The Pride march gathered more than 80,000 people in Santiago, according to the Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement, the largest Chilean organization defending the rights of this community.

Solidarity with Ukraine

In Warsaw, the capital of Poland, Ukrainian representatives of the LGBT+ community joined several tens of thousands of Pride Parade participants in a joint march marking their mutual solidarity and opposition to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The march began with a minute of silence for the victims of Friday night’s shooting near a gay bar in central Oslo, which led to the cancellation of the city’s pride parade.

Beirut has held a gay pride parade since 2017, and Lebanon was the first Arab country to celebrate sexual diversity in this way.

In Sri Lanka, the LGBT community added to its demands the resignation of President Gotabaja Rajapaksa, for his management of the economic crisis. The crowd ended its journey in front of the presidential residence, in support of the thousands of people who have camped there since April.

There were also marches in New York, Washington and Wilton Manors (Florida), among other cities in the United States. Buenos Aires, Brasilia and Guatemala are among the Latin American cities that had parades.

In Europe, there were marches in Madrid, Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon, Berlin, Lisbon, Sofia, Athens, in addition to Kathmandu, in Nepal, and the Philippine capital of Manila, among others.
