The details of the double homicide of Mauricio Leal and his mother, Marleny Hernández, are once again capturing the attention of Colombians after the revelation of what would be the ultimate evidence in the case that has Jhonier Leal behind bars serving a 55-year prison sentence for the events that occurred on November 21, 2021, in La Calera (Cundinamarca).

In the last few hours, a chilling video of Mauricio Leal was released, where the stylist can be seen dying with wounds in his chest and abdomen. Next to him, the lifeless body of his mother Marleny Hernández.

These images recorded on Mauricio Leal’s cell phone were discovered thanks to a request through a letter written by Carlos Andrés García Hernández, brother of Mauricio and Jhonier Leal, who is deprived of liberty in a prison in Jamundí (Valle del Cauca) after being accused of allegedly committing sexual crimes.

The letter dated July 17 was addressed to the prosecutor in charge of the case, Mario Burgos, to whom García Hernández requested that he be given the cell phone of the victims (Mauricio Leal and Marleny Hernández), according to evidence provided by RCN, which had access to the letter.

“I request that you, in accordance with the order issued by the 55th criminal court of the Bogotá circuit (…) regarding the delivery of the mobile phones owned by my brother Mauricio Leal Hernández and Marleny Hernández Pérez (RIP),” the letter reads.

It also makes clear who will be given the power to verify information on mobile devices: “… I expressly authorize that the mobile phones be delivered to Dr. Erika Sanguinetti Díaz (…) considering that the undersigned is imprisoned in the Jamundí prison, a situation that prevents me from being able to physically receive the mobile phones.”.

Later, the attorney Erika Sanguinetti received the device from the Prosecutor’s Office and it was then that she discovered the disturbing videos that have recently come to light and that have caused all kinds of reactions on social media.

“They were in plain sight just by opening the cell phone. It is a video that should be part of the evidence and even more so when Mr. Carlos Andrés, as a victim, had every right to know,” said Sanguinetti in an interview with Noticias Caracol.
