The letter with which Vicky Dávila says goodbye to Semana: is she preparing her candidacy?

The Colombian journalist Vicky Dávila confirmed this Saturday that she is leaving the direction of Semana magazine because she wants to be a presidential candidate in the 2026 elections..

(Read: Vicky Dávila and Juan Daniel Oviedo will be presidential candidates for 2026).

This is how he expressed it in “My farewell letter to the Colombians”published this Saturday in the magazine in which she also recounted her more than 30 years as a reporter in which she uncovered corruption scandals, especially of the current Government.

“I got here being a transparent woman. I ask my readers and my colleagues to no longer see me with the understandable gaze of journalism, but with the critical gaze of those who try to get involved to generate positive change in our beloved country. “I will never let you down.” Dávila said in his writing.

Dávila, who has no political experience, does not openly say that she will be a presidential candidate but in the letter she shows what the campaign line may be to be Petro’s successor.

For the moment, it is known that the presidential candidate will seek signatures to form a candidacy away from the parties. Although it had been a rumor for several months, the fact that Dávila’s arrival on the list of candidates became official caused a strong shock in the political environment.

“We must defeat fear, we must reset politics, we cannot give up. “The president cannot be more than an employee of Colombians and his challenge must be to understand the honor and responsibility that this embodies, but above all, we must match the priorities of politicians with the needs of the people,” he stated.

He also criticized the current president and those who supported him to be president of Colombia by stating: “Petro would not be president if a large part of the usual politicians had not disappointed Colombians”.

He then said that “that political debacle and so many unresolved needs of the people for decades, despite great efforts, gave the worst left the opportunity to sneak through the slots of democracy, with the mask of change”.

The journalist joins the list of pre-candidates for the presidency of Colombia of which the congresswomen are already part María Fernanda Cabal, Paloma Valencia, Paola Holguín, Andrés Guerra and Miguel Uribe Turbay, from the opposition Democratic Center party.

The former director of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) and former candidate for Mayor of Bogotá Juan Daniel Oviedo also expressed this week his desire to be a presidential candidate, for which he will leave his seat as a councilor in the Colombian capital.
