Santo Domingo.- A defender of the rights of sugarcane workers was arrested this Thursday at the Las Américas airport by police officers at the service of the National District prosecutor’s office.
Jesús Núñez, the leader of the retired sugarcane workers, would be transferred to the National District Prosecutor’s Office, to present him before a judge.
In March 2019, the General Directorate of Retirement and Pensions (DGJP) filed a complaint against Núñez for alleged fraud to the detriment of the State.
Núñez is the main head of the Union of Cane Workers, which often protests in front of public institutions asking for the delivery of pensions to cane workers.
