Despite the claims of Congresswoman Kelly Portalatino, the date will be celebrated on the first Sunday of February and not on her birthday.

This initiative was proposed by the Free Peru congresswoman, Kelly Portalatino Ávalos, and approved unanimously in plenary, exempting the second vote process. The law seeks to strengthen food security by promoting the consumption of products of marine origin and the economic reactivation of this sector.
The entities responsible for compliance with this new Law will be the Ministries of Production, Health and Agrarian Development and Irrigation.
Date change
The only observation that the legislative initiative had was the date. Initially, Congresswoman Portalatino proposed to declare the National Fish Consumption Day on November 9, the same day that the parliamentarian celebrates her birthday.

Despite the fact that the Production, Micro and Small Enterprises and Cooperatives Commission approved the document, the Plenary returned it with the observation of the date, for which the parliamentary working group proposed a new text so that the National Fish Consumption Day It is celebrated on the first Sunday of February.
Another event that took place in the debate on this Law was the comment made by Prime Minister Aníbal Torres, who stated that given the shortage of chicken, citizens could substitute it for fish: “Although the price of chicken goes up, but the price of fish goes down (…), we have to get used to consuming these substitute products.”
