The latest INE activity, employment and unemployment survey did not show major changes compared to previous months. In October, the activity rate stood at 62.1%, the employment rate at 57.2% (versus 56.8% in September) and the unemployment rate at 7.8%, with a reduction of half a point percentage compared to September (8.3%).
In the August-October mobile quarter, the employment rate was 56.9%, six tenths above the same month last year (56.2%).
“Employment without surprises in October. Number of employed and employment rate continue without showing signs of recovery. Number of employed (1,662,500) at levels similar to October 2021 (1,666,600),” CPA economist Ferrere Nicolás Cichevski wrote on his Twitter account.
In June there were 141 thousand unemployed. The unemployment rate for the August-October mobile quarter was 8%, this is 1 point below the 9% registered in the same period last year.
On the other hand, when observing the characteristics of employed people, it is estimated that the 8.2% were underemployed in October (Underemployed are those employed people who work less than 40 hours (usually), want to work more hours and are available to do so, but cannot get more work), while non-registration to social security for the main job stands at 20.5%, according to the INE.
