The Kremlin confirms Díaz-Canel’s visit to Moscow

OnCubaNews

The Kremlin confirmed this Wednesday that Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez will visit next week Moscow, where he will be received by his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. Shortly after, the Cuban president confirmed this news with the announcement of a four-nation tour.

“That’s how it is. We are waiting for President Bermúdez and contacts are being prepared between the presidents of the two countries”, said the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, in his daily telephone press conference, quoted by the Spanish agency efe.

From his official Twitter account, the Cuban president himself confirmed a tour that will begin in Algeria and will take him to Russia, Turkey and China, “in response to the official invitations issued by the leaders of those nations.” The official Cuban media still do not offer details.

Peskov noted that this is “a very important visit.” “Cuba is a very important partner for us. We have a lot to talk about, ”he said. Cuban diplomatic sources, cited by efehad reported Diaz-Canel’s plans to visit the Russian capital and also participate in the inauguration of a monument to Fidel Castro in Moscow, an event scheduled for November 22.

At the beginning of 2017, the authorities of the Russian capital named one of the city squares in honor of the leader of the Cuban revolution, who died in November 2016.

Russia assures that it will continue efforts to end the US embargo on Cuba

In the years since his visit to Moscow, in 2019, Díaz-Canel has held telephone conversations with Putin on several occasions and they reaffirmed plans to intensify cooperation between Moscow and Havana. He also expressed his appreciation for the Russian help in fighting the coronavirus.

This Wednesday, the Russian Senate once again condemned the US embargo on Cuba and demanded its lifting. According to the resolution approved by the legislators, the blockade suffered by the island is “a systematic violation of the norms of international law, contemplated in the UN Charter and a challenge for the entire system of international relations,” according to the Spanish source.
