The Minister of Productive Development, Daniel Scioli, affirmed today that “the knowledge economy is a very dynamic and competitive sector that today presents itself as an opportunity for the development and growth of Argentina.”
Likewise, Scioli pondered through a statement the creation of the Knowledge Economy Secretariat since “the global scenario requires us to readjust to the productive challenges and it is our task to provide the tools to the local network so that they can do so”.
The Government made official on Friday through decree 404/2022 the creation of the Knowledge Economy Secretariat, an area that until now had the rank of undersecretary within the scope of the national productive portfolio.
“The future has already arrived at this present and this opens up enormous opportunities for Argentina” considered Scioli, who also explained that the productive portfolio through this new Secretariat “deepens the commitment to give the sector the tools and support of the State, to generate new jobs, be more competitive and develop far and wide of the country, with a deep federal sense mobilizing all entrepreneurial energies”.
The sector, through the industries that comprise it, has already generated more than 454,000 genuine jobs throughout the country, the ministry recalled.
Objectives of the Secretariat
The Secretariat will have among its main objectives to continue working together with the companies in the sector, the third export complex in the country with more than US$ 6,400 million -in 2021- and has a wide margin to grow thanks to its transversal presence in the productive network, trade, research and education.
Maria de los Angeles Apolitowho until now served as undersecretary of the area, will continue to lead the Secretariat.
“In the current context of our country The recognition of the sector has the double merit of prioritizing a strategic area for the challenges that Argentina faces, linked to the generation of employment and foreign exchange in a sustainable manner, to sustain a long-term development model”, affirmed the new Secretary.
The Knowledge Economy brings together new technologies, the satellite industry, biotechnology, nanoscience and nuclear engineering, and Knowledge-Based Services – software and computer services, professional services, audiovisual production and post-production, among others.
A key milestone is the Knowledge Economy Promotion Regime, created by Law No. 27,506 and its amendment, Law 27,570 of 2020, which supports a series of benefits and financing options for both public and private companies.
