The keys to the new transportation subsidy scheme in Bogotá

The keys to the new transportation subsidy scheme in Bogotá

Starting February 1the District Secretariat of Social Integrationl, in alliance with TransMilenio will implement a new free fare mechanism intended for people with disabilities, adults over 62 years of age and families in poverty. Learn the 5 most important points of this measure.

The initiative will cover the entire Integrated Public Transport System (SITP), made up of buses TransMizonal (blue), trunk buses (red) of TransMilenio and TransMiCable of Ciudad Bolívar, facilitating social integration and improving the quality of life of the vulnerable populations of Bogotá.

Within the framework of the District Development Plan “Bogotá Walk Safely”the objective of the new subsidy scheme is to alleviate the expenses of vulnerable populations and promote their employment and educational opportunities.

1.How many people will it benefit?
The subsidy will reach approximately 820,000 people through the Guaranteed Minimum Income strategy, which represents a 30% increase in beneficiaries compared to the current scenario of financial support for transportation.

It is aimed at people with disabilities, adults over 62 years of age and households in situations of poverty and extreme poverty, who will receive a differentiated subsidy depending on their condition, guaranteeing universal coverage.

2.How will it be awarded?
The subsidy will be delivered through the preloading of free tickets on TransMilenio’s TuLlave cards. These tickets will replace current discounts on transportation system fares.

For example: people with disabilities will receive between 1 and 12 free tickets, adults over 62 years of age between 1 and 8 free tickets and households in poverty and extreme poverty, from 5 to 7 tickets, depending on the classification in the Sisbén or if they are not registered.
