The former Colombian president published this Saturday, on his Twitter account, five issues on which, in his opinion, the meetings in Mexico between the government and the opposition should focus, in order to achieve significant progress.
Iván Duque, former president of Colombia, listed this Saturday, November 12, points on which -in his opinion- the Venezuelan negotiation in Mexico should focus so that it is not “another trap” by Nicolás Maduro.
“Immediate freedom of political prisoners; free presidential elections now! guarantees and strict international observation; the dictator cannot be a candidate; and a reconstruction plan for Venezuela”, are the recommendations of the Colombian politician.
“Without these elements, such ‘dialogues’ will be another trap by the Narco Dictator Maduro with the complicity and ingenuity of others,” Duque warned on his Twitter account.
Such “Dialogues in Mexico” between the Dictatorship and the Democratic Resistance should focus on:
1. Immediate release of political prisoners
2. Free Presidential Elections now!
3. Guarantees and strict international observation
4. The Dictator cannot be a candidate– Ivan Duke ?? (@IvanDuque) November 12, 2022
From Duke to Petro
Duque’s message comes a day after the Venezuelan chief negotiators, Jorge Rodríguez and Gerardo Blyde, met in Paris with the presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron; Colombia, Gustavo Petro; and Argentina, Alberto Fernández; in order to agree to resume negotiations.
After the meeting, the current Colombian president, Gustavo Petro asked cease political conflict, “in terms of Venezuela’s entry into the Inter-American Human Rights System, of a general amnesty, of a general unblocking of the Venezuelan economy,” he said.
