He Judiciary summoned to trial the leader of the violent extreme right group The Resistance for the alleged crime of aggravated defamation against the Legal Defense Institute (IDL). It is about Juan Muñico Gonzales — who already has a conviction for the same crime —, who is summoned to the hearing for next March 28, 2025. Muñico Gonzales is also known as Jota Maelo.
“It is resolved: to summon the defendant to the hearing of the complaint trial Juan José Muñico Gonzales for the alleged commission of the crime against honor – aggravated defamation, to the detriment of IDL (…) for March 28, 2025 at 8:30 am,” the judicial resolution reads.

As recalled, on January 31, the 16th Unipersonal Court of Lima sentenced Muñico Gonzales to one year and 6 months of effective imprisonment for the crime against honor in the form of aggravated defamation to the detriment of the IDL, represented by Glatzer Tuesta Altamirano. Likewise, as part of the sentence, the payment of civil compensation of S/50,000 was established.
However, the penalty was changed to 78 hours of community service, as well as one hundred and twenty days’ fine of his income, at a rate of S/10 per day in favor of the Peruvian State.
Furthermore, according to the summons resolution issued by the Judiciaryit reads that Juan José Muñico Gonzales He is “under warning of being declared a contumacious offender in case of unjustified non-attendance and his location and compulsive driving will be ordered by the corresponding police authority.”
La Resistencia: Juan Muñico has a previous sentence for defaming IDL
The leader of the violent group La Resistencia, Juan José Muñico, received a sentence on January 26, 2021 In a similar case, related to the crime of aggravated defamation. The sentence imposed consisted of one year of suspended prison. Subsequently, on March 10, 2022, the judicial resolution was declared consented.
The sentence ordered Muñico Gonzales be rectified for other grievances directed to the Legal Defense Institute (IDL). However, the person involved disobeyed the court order. Given this situation, it was requested that the sentence, initially suspended, become effective. However, the Judiciary decided not to make this modification.
