The José Jacinto Milanés theater reopens its doors

OnCubaNews

After a recovery process, the José Jacinto Milanés theater in Pinar del Río announces that it will open its doors to the public this weekend with the presentation of the Acosta Danza company. The activity is part of the XXVII Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival of Havana.

On September 27, Hurricane Ian left damage to the theater, which ranged from the roof to the main door. José González Paíno, director of the Milanés, said that entities such as Tecnoescena, the Fidias project and the Services and Works Execution Company of the Ministry of Culture, based in Villa Clara, had participated in the reconstruction work.

The origins of the theater date back to 1838, when a place of palm boards and a guano roof was built. The Milanés is a symbol of the city of Pinar del Río and has been the scene of important cultural events.

It is a beautiful theater with 540 seats, one of the oldest in Latin America. Its eclectic style, predominantly neoclassical, is one of its distinctive features. The façade stands out, made up of five arches on pillars with attached columns, and stands out for its Sevillian patio with a stage for café-concert and capacity for 120 people.

This Saturday the theater will once again receive the public from Pinar del Río with its traditional splendor.
