The JCE advances in the assembly of various processes of 2024

Everything indicates that in this electoral process there will not be simultaneous primaries to choose the candidates, which facilitates the work of the JCE for the administration of internal processes in the parties.

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) advances in the assembly of the primaries of the political parties to be carried out from the first Sunday of October of this year and at the same time works in the assembly of the elections of February and May of 2024.

The body has already started the training of 1,820 members of the electoral boards and foreign offices, and established April 14 as the deadline for the parties to define the method of election of the candidacies.

In addition to the start of training for the members of the electoral boards, for this month the JCE has scheduled ten administrative activities that include the delivery of the economic contribution to the parties by the JCE and the delivery of generic materials for logistics electoral.

The JCE will also initiate the discussion for the dissemination of the results of the February elections and the selection and training of information technology personnel for the electoral boards.

In March, the JCE will also begin with the selection of technical instructors for the electoral precincts and the hiring for the printing of operating manuals.

Yesterday, the president of the JCE, Román Jáquez met with the Minister of Education Ángel Hernández, to “talk about different issues in view of the 2024 electoral process.”

Regarding that meeting, it was learned that the JCE is concerned about 32 venues that operate on dirt floors and 33 in wooden houses, located in clubs, so that they can be transferred to schools or high schools in those areas.

It is recalled that the parties are in the process of defining the method of electing the positions of popular election, but the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) announced that it will be in closed primaries.

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) reported that it decided to choose the candidates for the most important positions through surveys, while the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) has announced that it will do so through closed primaries.

On its side, the People’s Force will decide the method of election at the meeting of the Political Directorate next week.

From what can be seen, the JCE will not have to organize simultaneous primaries as happened in the 2019 elections, when the parties decided on that election method.

JCE purges documents for new parties

The JCE, through the Department of Political Parties, is working on debugging the files of the projects that request recognition for the municipal elections in February. In total, 104 organizations request that they be granted legal status, but only 54 of that number deliver the complete documentation to the JCE. The JCE has to decide on new recognitions before October this year for the February elections.
