The Institute of Public Health of Chile issued an urgent resolution ordering ten brands of nail polishes for containing a substance prohibited since September 2025: the compound Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO). This ingredient, classified as a CMR category 1B substance, may be toxic to human health.
The ISP ordered the withdrawal of 10 nail polishes
The organization published a complete list of the nail polishes with presence of the prohibited component:
- Mimi Color Gel, Shiny White permanent nail polish.
- Mimi Color Gel, Shiny Gold permanent polish.
- Color Club Gel, Foundation Primer (gel foundation).
- Color Club Gel, Seal+Shine Top Coat (gel top coat).
- Perfect Wow Base Coat.
- Passet Nail Base Gel.
- Apres Base Gelcoat.
- Apres Top Gelcoat.
- Apres Extend Gel.
- Apres Soft Gel Builder.
The TPO functions as a photoinitiator and allows the nail polishes semi-permanent products harden properly when exposed to UV or LED light. However, recent studies have shown that constant exposure can release particles that are harmful to the skin and the hormonal system. For this reason, the compound was banned in the European Union and then in Chile, as it can cause irritations, allergies or long-term health effects. He ISP asked users to check their nail polish containers and suspend the use of the indicated products.
